Counselling & Psychotherapy in Harrogate & Online
Hello, I am Elaine, an experienced BACP accredited counsellor based in Harrogate.
After a career break from teaching to bring up my family, I returned to the UK in 2015 and started to find myself drawn to helping close friends and family who were experiencing challenges with their mental health and wellbeing.
This sparked my interest in how to help people who are going through difficult times, and I decided to train as a therapeutic counsellor.
I have worked in the charity sector for Mind (Harrogate) as well as with Phoenix Health and Wellbeing (Leeds). More recently, I have enjoyed being part of the team at The Harlow in Harrogate. Here I have worked with many of their clients alongside those whom I have counselled as part of my own Private Practice.
Being part of a person’s therapeutic journey is a huge privilege. People often enter the counselling room with the weight of the world on their shoulders. Having the ability to help them make the transition to a more positive mental space, with a new lease of life, and more understanding of themselves, is what I love about being a therapist.
You can also find me listed in Counselling Directory and Psychology Today.
My counselling service is designed to help adult individuals who are struggling with life changing challenges such as grief, anger, arguments, relationship difficulties, anxiety, bullying, panic attacks. and stress. These things often cause low self-esteem and depression leading to us losing focus, feeling stuck, and needing help to move forwards.
As a fully qualified counsellor and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I believe that everyone has the ability for personal growth and to find happiness within themselves. The key to unlocking things lies within the working relationship between myself and my client.
Creating a warm, caring, and trusting space, in which you feel comfortable to explore your thoughts and beliefs, will help us to identify the barriers in your life. This then allows us the platform from which we can work together in finding ways of moving forward towards a more positive future.

I work from a quiet area of Harrogate, at No. 1 Cardale Park, Beckwith Head Road, Harrogate HG3 1RZ, and see clients from central Harrogate and the surrounding areas.
In addition to face-to-face therapy, I also offer online sessions for clients in Harrogate and beyond via Microsoft Teams. Contact me to learn more about how online therapy works.
Sessions last 50 minutes and normally take place on a weekly basis, costing £65 per session. I do have a limited number of spaces at a reduced rate for those on low-income; please contact me to enquire about availability. I offer a free initial twenty minute phone consultation. This enables you to get a feel for how I operate, and if you think I would be the right fit for you.
Please note that if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, I require 48 hours notice (not including weekends); otherwise you will still need to pay for any session missed. I accept payment by cash or by bank transfer.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right counsellor to help.
You can also call me on +44 07592324875 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
